President Trump Cancels UK Visit, Cites “Bad Deal” by Obama Administration

Blog

President Trump has cancelled a trip to Great Britain to open a new American Embassy there citing a bad deal made for the new embassy building by the Obama administration.  The president and British Prime Minister Theresa May were involved in a slight disagreement several months ago when President Trump retweeted three anti-Muslim videos from a far-right British political group.

There is speculation that the president decided to cancel his visit because of concerns that he would get an unwelcomed reception in the UK.  It’s been reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is likely to take the president’s place at the embassy opening.

The embassy deal in question was actually finalized by the George W. Bush administration in October 2008.
