Former Reddit CEO: “We Knew” About Ghislaine Maxwell Trafficking Underage Girls for Sex

Headlines U.S. World

Former Reddit CEO Ellen Pao acknowledged that Ghislaine Maxwell’s trafficking in underage girl for sex was common knowledge among a certain sub-sect of the country’s elites.

Pao made the statement in a tweet yesterday where she recounted being at the same holiday party in 2011 as Maxwell, when Pao was with the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins.

“[Maxwell] was at the Kleiner holiday party in 2011, but I had no desire to meet her much less have a photo taken with her. We knew about her supplying underage girls for sex, but I guess that was fine with the ‘cool’ people who managed the tightly controlled guest list.”

Pao is a former partner at Kleiner Perkins.

After being asked to elaborate on her tweet, Pao locked her Twitter account, barring any user from seeing her tweets without permission.

She would subsequently write that any knowledge of Maxwell’s illegal activities was the result of news reports, and that it was only “suspected” that she had engaged in such crimes.

“To be clear, the press had described her as supplying underage girls for sex, but she had not been charged so I guess it would be more accurate to say we ‘suspected’ v ‘knew,’” Pao said.

After being challenged on the fact that she seemed to be “fine” with Maxwell’s presence herself in that she didn’t object in any way, Pao deflected, citing her “junior” role with the company.

“Of course I wasn’t [fine with it]. But I was a junior partner on the outside of the inner circle, and what I said made no difference here and in many other decisions,” she wrote.

Maxwell, accused by many of being Jeffrey Epstein’s “madame” for helping lure victims into his sex trafficking ring, was arrested last week by FBI agents in New Hampshire. She’s indicated willingness to cooperate with authorities and divulge the names of wealthy and powerful men from all over the world who were allegedly client’s of Epstein’s.
