Global airline lobby IATA is working on a smartphone app that is to display a traveller’s Covid19 status. The measure is part of a campaign to make Covid19 vaccinations a prerequisite for air travel in the future.
Qantas said Monday a Covid19 vaccination will be a necessity for boarding its international flights. Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce told Australia’s Channel 9 he has discussed the idea with other airlines, and it’s to become a global pre-boarding requirement.
Travellers will be required to share their status with border authorities or present a QR code on an app for scanning.
A test program is to being with British Airways parent company IAG SA this year and is anticipated to be available on Apple devices in the first quarter of 2021, and on Android devices by the second quarter of 2021.
