Trump Campaign Lawsuit in Pennsylvania Argues the PA Supreme Court Disregarded Meaningful Election Safeguards – Asks U.S. Supreme Court to Declare Them Unlawful

Headlines Politics U.S.

A new lawsuit filed by President Trump’s reelection campaign asks the U.S. Supreme Court to declare changes to election procedures granted by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court unlawful.

Enacting changes to election regulations is the sole power of state legislatures and cannot be changed by state courts, the lawsuit attests.

“Yet, during the 2020 presidential election,” the petition reads, “that is what the Pennsylvania Supreme Court did…Statutory requirements were eliminated regarding signature verification, the right of campaigns to challenge invalid mail ballots, mandates that mail voters fill in, date, and sign mail ballot declarations, and even the right of campaigns to observe the mail ballot canvassing process in a meaningful way.”

The suit asks the U.S. Supreme Court to strike these changes down as unlawful. Such a ruling would disqualify electors already certified by Pennsylvania and pave the way for new electors, chosen by the PA legislature, to be certified.

The Court is expected to determine whether it will hear the case this week.
