The U.S. Supreme Court set a deadline for a response to be submitted in a Trump campaign election fraud case for January 22, 2021. That date is two days after Inauguration Day and would presumably render any decision in the case moot.
The lawsuit, filed by President Trump’s reelection campaign, asks the U.S. Supreme Court to declare changes to election procedures granted by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court unlawful.
A ruling in the case, if in the campaign’s favor, would disqualify electors already certified by the state and pave the way for new electors chosen by the Pennsylvania legislature to be certified.
The deadline means state officials will not have to officially respond to the lawsuit until Jan. 22.
