Joe Biden and Kamala Harris want to decriminalize the act of deliberately exposing another person to HIV.
Biden says he supports California Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s REPEAL HIV Discrimination Act, which characterizes the “blood, semen and saliva” of people living with HIV as a “deadly weapon.”
“These laws perpetuate discrimination and stigma towards people with HIV/AIDS, and there is simply no “scientific basis” for them,” Biden writes in his plans for advancing LGBT rights and protections.
Twenty-six states currently have HIV exposure laws.
