The Michigan Republican Party is accusing the Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) of “pushing the mass deletion of election data,” from voting software amid calls for full audits of votes cast on Nov. 3.
The Michigan GOP said Benson’s office told related officials in state counties to “delete Electronic Poll Book software and associated files,” in a memo dated Dec. 1, an order they say is concerning.
“Secretary Benson’s move to request the deletion of election data amidst bipartisan calls for an audit is just another example of her putting partisan politics over what’s best for Michigan,” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox said in a statement Friday.
Benson’s office says the deletion of voter data after an election is routine and is done to protect privacy.
