Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) has challenged Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) to a debate about election fraud on the Senate floor.
Hawley was one of the first Republican Senators to commit to dispute Electoral College votes when Congress meets in a joint session to certify them next week.
“Missourians have been loud and clear that they do not believe the presidential election was fair…I believe it is my responsibility as a Senator to raise their concerns in the forum allowed to members of Congress. That’s exactly what I intend to do,” Hawley wrote in a statement yesterday.
“Instead of debating the issue of election integrity by press release, conference call or email, perhaps we could have a debate on the Senate floor for all of the American people to judge. That is what we were elected to do and it is, I suggest, what we owe our constituents,” Hawley said in comments directed at Toomey.

Earlier in the day Toomey accused Hawley and other Republican Senators who have since pledged to dispute the results of the election of undermining democracy.
A fundamental, defining feature of a democratic republic is the right of the people to elect their own leaders. The effort by Sens. Hawley, Cruz, and others to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in swing states like Pennsylvania directly undermines this right.
