Bizarre Judicial Obstinance Ends: Sullivan Dismisses Case Against Michael Flynn

Headlines Politics U.S.

After months of judicial obstinance that left many scratching their heads, Judge Emmet Sullivan has dropped all charges against Gen. Michael Flynn.

Flynn was accused of lying to the FBI about conversations he had with a Russian Ambassador in December 2016, a month before assuming the role of National Security Adviser for the incoming Trump administration.

The Department of Justice recommended the case be dismissed earlier this year however, when it was revealed FBI agents acting in the case set a “perjury trap” for Flynn, and that the pursuit of Flynn was merely a way to “get Trump.”

Sullivan for months refused to honor the dismissal of charges, or the full pardon issued to Flynn by President Trump just weeks ago.

In a finally display of hostility, Sullivan went out of his way to write in his decision that accepting a pardon does not “render ‘innocent’ a defendant,” but rather “implies a ‘confession’ of guilt.”
